Scholarship Planed

Published Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in the Gurdon Times

An endowed annual scholarship honoring former U.S. Sen. Dale Bumpers has been established at the Arkansas Community Foundation.

The scholarship, initiated as a surprise by friends and associates of Sen. Bumpers, honors his support of the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site. Bumpers sponsored the federal legislation which was signed by President Clinton.

"The Bumpers scholarship will be presented to a graduating Central High senior who has a strong interest in and commitment to public service," said Pat Lile, president of the Arkansas Community Foundation. "It is a wonderful tribute to a very special and outstanding Arkansan. It also recognizes the significant role Senator Bumpers played and continues to play at Central High School."

The Arkansas Community Foundation is a 23-year old independent, publicly supported philanthropic organization serving donors and charitable causes throughout the state. Its assets, totaling more than 23 million dollars, are comprised of more than 300 charitable funds.

Contributions to the Bumpers Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and can be sent to the Arkansas Community Foundation at 700 South Rock St., Little Rock, AR 72202.
