CaneyRuby WickerPublished Wednesday, December 22, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune This has been a busy week for neighbors in Caney. Dorothy Apel Retta McBride, Margie Reed and I attended a party for the SAMS at Western Sizzlin Thursday at noon. Thursday evening the C and C Extension Homemakers had their Christmas party at Western Sizzlin. Lucy Glass, Dorothy Apel, Margie Reed, Wanda Wicker, Evelyn Wicker, Janice Callicott and I attended. The Glass families had their monthly supper at the Cross Roads this week. All children of J.W. and Maxine Glass, Junior and Johnie, Jake and Helen and Lucy were there. Mary Fern Overton was not there because her husband, Jerald has some serious health problems. He has been in the hospital and nursing home part time. We were glad to see Safrona Stokes last weekend. She is visiting her parents, Junior and Ann Loe and in-laws, Milton and Ruth Stokes of Prescott. Milton is scheduled for surgery soon and Junior is coming along with his treatments. Ken, Celia Karmel and Margie Reed returned Wednesday from New Orleans and Cut Off, La. Ken went to New Orleans on business. Charlotte Smith met them along the way and Margie went to Cut Off, La., for a two day visit. Members of Morris Baptist Church have also had a busy weekend. They made up 106 fruit packs Saturday afternoon. They had a fellowship luncheon Sunday and delivered fruit Sunday afternoon and I almost forgot a very important event. The young folks took the float (which they entered in the Christmas parade), and sang Christmas carols to certain people in the community, although it was very cold, the kids enjoyed it and so did the elders. Margie Reed and I visited Myrtie Bearden Sunday afternoon. She is doing very well after her tangle with their broncos. She is now using a walker, but will start using a cane soon. We enjoyed the visit and were amazed to learn her daughter, who is not as big as a minute, drives a log truck - 18 wheeler. The young folks of Morris Baptist Church had their Christmas program Sunday evening. The Christmas story taken from the Bible was well presented. There will be no T-in-T this week at Morris, but we will have adult Bible study Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Keith Karmel of Benton visited his parents Ken and Celia and other relatives here last weekend. My families, Don, Jarvis, Cannon Heather Callicott, Cyril, Phyllis and Brandon Stewart and I went to McCaskil Saturday. We spent the afternoon with my daughter Amy Sweat and her family. Santa came to see Amy early and brought her a new kitchen range which the boys installed for her. Robert Callicott and April Stewart were not able to be there. We enjoyed a delicious pot luck supper. Don and Janis Callicott attended a supper for the Nevada School Board Thursday evening at the Cross Roads. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
