PHS Boys Drop Two GamesPublished Wednesday, December 22, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneUnlike the senior girls, the Prescott Curley Wolves haven't found the mark yet in the 7AAA Conference. They have the potential to break it open any time, but they just haven't done it. Poor shooting, poor rebounding and poor ball handling prevailed last week as the Wolves lost both conference games. They will not be able to improve their present record until the season resumes in January. The Curley Wolves will play next week, however, in the Nashville Holiday Classic. They will play next Monday around 9:30 p.m. The classic will be Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. CURLEY WOLVES 30 FOUNTAIN LAKE 48 The Curley Wolves took their first beating at home against the Fountain Lake Cobras, 48-30. While each team was slow about scoring in the first period, the Panthers had the Wolves 10-5 after eight minutes. In fact, Prescott did not hit the two-digit level until just before halftime, but the Panthers led 21-11 during the break in action. The Curley Wolves improved in the third period and scored 10 points, but Fountain Lake scored 14 during the same period to lead 35-21 as they went into the final quarter. Brian Woodley was the only Prescott player to scored in double figures. He finished with five field goals for 10 points. Others scoring for the Wolves were Andrew Fellows with 4 points; Matt Brannan and Terry Woodley with 3 apiece; and Sidney Giles, Cory Yarbrough, Brandan Young, Kevin Fulkes and Ronnie Nolen each finished with 2 points apeice. Changy scored 15 points for Fountain Lake to lead the Cobras in their win. The Wolves went to the free throw line four times and hit one while the Cobras made 6 of 8. CURLEY WOLVES 65 FOUKE 74 There was an improvement Friday night for the Wolves against Fouke, but the Panthers managed a 74-65 conference win. At one time in the second half the Curley Wolves were within two points of the Panthers. The Curley Wolves were sharper from the free throw line at Fouke, making 9 of 17. As in the previous game last week, coach Larry Newson played a lot of players. Against Fountain Lake and Fouke nine players scored. Three players for Prescott were in double digits, but it just wasn't enough to do the job. Brian Woodley scored 17 points, hitting seven 2-pointers and making 3 of 3 free throws. Matt Brannan scored 13 points, making three 3-pointers and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Sidney Giles scored 11 points for Prescott, five 2-pointers and he was 1 for 1 from the stripe. Others scoring for Prescott were Kevin Fulkes with 7 points; Terry Woodley with 5; Cory Yarbrough and Edward Glenn scored 4 each; and Andrew Fellows and Jesten Fellows scored 2 points apiece. Fouke led the Wolves 17-10 after one quarter; 31-20 at halftime and 47-42 after three periods of play. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
