County Budget Passed For 2000BY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 22, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Nevada County will open 2000 with a budget totaling $3.5 million. However, 90 percent of this, or $3.1 million, can be spent, as the other 10 percent is used as a contingency fund. The county's general fund is budgeted at $1,607,377.50 overall, with the amount actually available for use is $1,446,639.75. The road and bridge budget is projected at $1,150,407.16, with $1,035,366.44 being 90 percent. In solid waste, the budget is $459,249.85, with 90 percent being $413,324.86. The county's library budget was set at $19,237.22, with 90 percent of those revenues being $17,313.50. Under the child support part of the budget, the funds were $15,355.21, with 90 percent being $13,819.69. For boating safety, the projected revenues were $2,849.25, with 90 percent of this amount $2,564.33. The jail budget for Y2K was set at $260,125.93, with the amount available being $234,113.34. The budget was also broken down by each individual department. For the county judge's department, the overall budget was $37,875.12. Next up is the county clerk's budget, totaling $71,758.49, with salaries taking the lion's share of this, as it does for most other departments. The circuit clerk's budget will be $73,466.28, with the treasurer's budget set at $50,295.52. The sheriff's office budget was 214,348.44, while the collector's allotment was $72,487.62. For the tax assessor's office, the budget is $289,184.02, with the equalization board at $2,750. Judge Jim Gunter's portion for circuit/probate judge is $13,608. The probate court's budget is $600, with the municipal court allocated $38,750.87. For jurors and witnesses, the Nevada County Quorum Court budgeted $16,500, while granting the county's governing body a budget of $30,175. For juvenile judge Duncan Culpepper's office, the budget is $28,731.05, with the juvenile intake appropriation being $21,309.10. The budget for the prosecuting attorney is $16,656.13, while courthouse maintenance was granted $64,864.11. The county jail budget was set at $220,699, with the health office to receive $12,500. The court budgeted $15,800 for elections with the coroner's budget set at $4,793.08. Other major county departments included solid waste, at $381,786.12; road and bridge at 4986,496.61; and the 9-1-1 emergency telephone project granted $37,500.
