Lady Eagles Win Two Of Their Last Three GamesBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 15, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Emmet's senior girls have been on a tear of late, winning two of their last three games. In the Genoa Tournament Saturday, Dec. 4, the Lady Eagles were flying high with an unbelievable 62-9 win over Stamps. Emmet opened the game with a 10-0 first quarter, as the offense was just getting warmed up, while the defense was terribly stingy all night. Period two saw the Lady Eagles extend their lead to an 18-2 margin at the half. The third quarter was little better for the Lady Yellow Jackets as they managed to score five points. However, the Lady Eagles added 23 to their end of the tally to make it 44-7. Period four was pretty much the same as the Emmet quintet outscored Stamps 16-2. Amanda Hodges led all scorers with 28 for Emmet, while Amber Dougan contributed 11 to the win. Christal Robinson broke into the double-figure category with 10. Emmet was eight of 17 from the charity stripe. Stamps was 0-2 at the line. EMMET 36 WICKES 39 Perhaps the thrashing of Stamps by Emmet Saturday, Dec. 4, was the result of a homecoming loss at the hands of Wickes the night before. The Lady Warriors spoiled homecoming for Emmet 39-36 in a hard-fought battle. A pair of threes from Ashley Knop helped propel Wickes to a 12-7 lead at the end of one. The difference didn't change in the second period as both teams scored eight points. The halftime score was 20-15, still in favor of the Lady Warriors. The Lady Eagles outscored Wickes 10-6 in the third period to cut the lead to 26-25, but didn't have enough left in the tank in the final period to pull off the win. Hodges was the leading scorer for Emmet once again, this time with 12 points. Knop led all scorers for Wickes with 15. At the stripe, Emmet was five of nine, while Wickes was eight of 17. EMMET 37 WALDO 33 Rose Martin stepped forward to lead the Lady Eagles to a 37-33 win over Waldo on Nov. 30. But it was Christal Robinson's six, along with Martin's four that gave Emmet a 10-9 lead at the end of one. The lead remained at one when the buzzer sounded at the half as both teams added six to their totals to make the score 16-15, still in Emmet's favor. The Lady Eagle offense heated up in the third frame as Robinson netted six more to help Emmet outscore the Lady Bulldogs 14-6 and take a 30-21 lead. However, the Lady 'Dogs battled back in the fourth to make a game of it. In fact, Waldo only hit treys in the frame, with Britnee Weaver netting a trio of them to narrow the gap to the final margin. Martin led Emmet with 13, while Robinson followed with 12. Weaver was the game's leading scorer with 18 for the Lady Bulldogs. Emmet was woeful at the free throw line, hitting only one of six, while Waldo was more consistent, netting five of eight. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
