Enrollment in the Emmet School District stands at 310, with 184 in the elementary school and 126 in the high school.

These numbers were presented to the Emmet School Board during its regular monthly meeting Monday, Dec. 6.

Grades four through six of the elementary school will have a Christmas program Thursday at 7 p.m. in the gym.

The second nine weeks grading period will end Friday, Dec. 17, with the students getting a break from Dec. 20 until Jan. 3.

On the high school level, students will be applying for the Upward Bound program to get some tutoring for the ACT test.

This program is for academically challenged students, who need a little extra help preparing for the ACT test.

The board agreed to participate in the program, promising the district would furnish a room one-day a week for the instructor.

Upward Bound is an income and grade based program for students in grades 9-11.

The board also approved a field trip for these students, with it to be held in June.

A total of 14 students and four adults will be heading to the Beta Club Convention on Jan. 28, in Little Rock. This will not be an overnight trip as all will return when the convention ends.

No date was set, but the board approved a field trip for students to visit the Blackland Farms. When this trip is held will depend on the weather.

The school's library club will make a trip to Hot Springs to see the Christmas lights. This trip was awarded to the students for their efforts on raising funds for the club.

Tracy Jones, girls basketball coach, was given the nod to attend a track clinic in January. This will be in January.

The board also discussed Act 1301. According to Superintendent Dr. Gene Ross, this act requires all school districts to consider going to school uniforms.

The district must form an advisory committee to study this issue and report its findings to the board.

Should the committee find uniforms are needed and the board decide not to pursue the matter, the issue would be placed on the ballot for the September school election to let the people decide.

This is to be done between now and April, Ross told the board.
