Two Students Place In Arkansas School Band And OrchestraPublished Wednesday, December 8, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesBradley Weems and Andrew Wilson have placed in this year's Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association Region III Jazz Band. Weems, the son of Gary and Maxine Weems, is a sophomore at Gurdon High School. For his first year at try-outs, he chose bass guitar, which is what he plays in the Gurdon Jazz Band. Bradley showed his stuff during the concert on Nov. 13, held in Arkadelphia. Wilson, the son of Roy and Elizabeth Wilson, is a senior at GHS. This is his third year to place on the drum set, which is what he plays in the Gurdon Jazz Band. Each year 44 students earn a position in the Region III Jazz Band by being judged on sight-reading ability, improvisation skills and rehearsed music. "We are honored to have two representatives from Gurdon," Allen Wimberly, Gurdon band director, said. "Congratulations to these two students."
