City Water Project Gets FundedBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, June 16, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune There's no such thing as too much good news. On Wednesday, June 9, the City of Prescott was awarded $208,000 by the Economic Development of Arkansas Fund Commission. This windfall came with the help of Rep. Sandra Rodgers and State Sen. Jim Hill, along with Mayor Howard Taylor, Walt Denton, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, Mike Marlar of Marlar Engineering and Clinton Wingfield of Wingfield Associates. The funds resulted from a proposal and presentation made asking help for industrial road improvements and for the Prescott Rural Water project. In addition to the EDAFC's allocation, the Arkansas Department of Economic Development (ADED) and Arkansas Soil and Water Commission will fund the water project in July in the amount of about $4 million. The $208,000 allocation to Prescott continues the city's strong economic development run which includes a $1 million grant for a new library and education center, spearheaded by Sen. Mike Ross; a $100,000 grant for the Nevada County Fairgrounds and Nevada County Rural Fire Departments by Rep. Percy Malone; and an additional $10,000 grant for the fairgrounds through Rodgers' efforts. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
