Early reports show the 12th Annual Chicken and Egg Festival to be a success.

Complete details won't be known or available until next week.

However, Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, said everything went well for the two-day event, in spite of showers Friday.

Overall, she said, the weather cooperated, though it was warm Saturday afternoon. "It was a good decision to move the festival to June, than have it in July when the temperatures are 100 or more."

The Chamber board of directors will meet and decide whether or not to keep the festival in June or move it back to July. Godwin said she thinks it will continue to be held in June.

There was a good turnout for the 5K run/walk Saturday morning, she said, and the quality of art and craft displays were better than ever. In addition, Godwin said, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's aquarium was a big hit with festival-goers.

"I'm happy with the turnout," Godwin said. "Everything went well and smoothly."

The Rotary Club's chicken dinner had a larger attendance than ever, she said, with the Kiwanis Club's omelet breakfast having a good turnout as well.

The vendors, Godwin continued, were pleased with the crowd, and the magic show was well received. Tim McGowan, the magician, said this was one of the nicest festivals he's ever worked.

The train and pony rides were constantly in motion, she added. The train ride could have done more business Friday evening had it been here, as the crowd was larger then.

Basically, she said, the festival was a complete success. However, results of the various events and contests won't be available until next week as the results haven't been turned in to the Chamber.
