Lions Club Auction Will Start ThursdayBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, December 8, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune This will be a busy week in Prescott. Along with the third annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade and Christmas on the Square, the Prescott Lions Club auction will be held. The auction will be held Thursday and Friday in the courtroom of the Nevada County Courthouse. It will be held both nights starting at 6:30. Merchants from the surrounding area, including Hope, Gurdon, Arkadelphia, Hot Springs, Blevins and Texarkana, have donated items to be auctioned off. Those visiting and participating will be able to choose from hundreds of goods and services. But, as a special treat, some Branson attractions and motels have also made donations to the auction. The money raised by the event will be used to help those in need of eye exams, purchase glasses and hearing devices, along with financial assistance to those who need a helping hand. The Leos, the female version of the Lions, will be operating the concession stand at the auction. There is no admission to the auction, and there will be a drawing for cash door prizes. Some of the presentations the club made in 1999 include: two$500 scholarships to graduating seniors; $100 to the Nevada County Health Fair; referring a resident for free treatment to Lions Mid-South Sight in Memphis; buying 11 sets of Henry's Lights for the courthouse; $50 to the Prescott High School Wolf Trail; $250 to the Caddo Area Boy Scout Council; $100 to the day care center; $250 to sponsor a little league baseball team; bought a $900 talking computer for Lions World Services for the Blind in Little Rock; $50 to the PHS cheerleaders; $300 to the PHS band; $100 to the DARE program; and $300 to the PHS band for six half-band scholarships.
