PDEA Hosts Coffee

Published Wednesday, December 1, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune

November 14-20 marked the 78th annual observance of American Education Week, a time for saluting public schools and the people who work in them.

Prescott District Education Association, a member of the Arkansas Education Association, and Prescott Chamber of Commerce sponsored the monthly coffee at Prescott Middle School during the special week.

Parents, former students, community members and business leaders were invited to go to the school to enjoy the refreshments.

Mayor Howard Taylor officially designated the week of November 14-20 as American Education Week in Prescott, at a proclamation. A signing ceremony preceding the annual coffee. The mayor briefly discussed education's success.

The theme of this year's American Education Week observance was: 'Students Today, Leaders Tomorrow.'

The theme reflects that today's schools do more than teach basic skills. They nurture and inspire children. They help shape young minds and equip students with a range of skills for leadership in the 21st century.

Several teachers from Prescott Elementary School and from Prescott Middle School displayed students' work in the cafeteria, halls and lounge at Prescott Middle School.
