Gertha Big Mama' Slay

Mrs. Gertha Big Mama' Slay, 89, of Prescott died Thursday, August 26, 1999, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope.

Mrs. Slay was born July 10, 1910, in Shreveport, La., to Percy and Lula Johnson. She was a devoted member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus, who died in 1973 and sister, Elizabeth Taylor.

Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Henagan of Prescott, Darlene Young of Little Rock and Louise Dixon of St. Louis, Mo.; two cousins, Shirley Richardson and Mattie Barnes, both of Chicago, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Bonita Henagan, LaTishua Jones, Danny Henagan, April Henagan, Andrea Henagan, TaWana McClinton, Jeff Young, James Dixon, Audrey Dixon, Sonya Dixon, LaToya Dixon and Carolyn Dixon; and a host of friends.

Graveside services were held Thursday, September 2, at DeAnn Cemetery with Rev. William H. Colbert officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Brazzel/Cornish Funeral Home of Prescott.
