Alvin Newborn's first anniversary. Everyone is welcome. Special guest will be New Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Gurdon. Rev. Quintin Radford, pastor and speaker. Rev. Alvin Newborn, pastor. Out of town relatives who visited their families during the Thanksgiving holiday were John (Winki) Bailey of Los Angeles, Calif., who visited his mother, Ola Mae Bailey of Burtsell and his aunts, Monteen Davis of Gurdon, Veodis Cook of Malvern, and other friends; and Floyd Willey and Jayreece Wiley of Chicago, Ill., and Ellen Marie Wiley of Texas visit their sisters, Ola Mae Bailey of Burtsell, Monteen Davis and Gilbert of Gurdon, and Veodis Cook of Malvern, and other relatives and friends. Elder Ray Thomas of Chicago, Ill., recently visited his mother and father; and brothers, Johnnie and Phillip Allen; sisters, Doretha Haltom and sons of Little Rock, and Michelle Norman and family, also of Little Rock; his Uncle Tom Allen; Larry Washington; and Thomas Ray Allen; and cousins of Gurdon. He also visited his former church, First Memorial Church of God in Christ of Gurdon. He has returned to his home. Mrs. Helen Burton of Chicago, Ill., visited her daughter and son, Winfred and Margret Burton, Jerine Hatley and grandchildren, her brother and wife, Joe and Hazel Welch, Floyd and Margie Gatlin, and other friends and family of Gurdon. She also attended New Mt. Zion Baptist Church Sunday morning and Canaan Baptist Church in Little Rock. She also visited nephews Fred and Geneva Shells, Valree Smith, Bryon and Alecia Shells and daughter of Little Rock in the afternoon, where her grandson, Rev. Rufus Hatley, was the speaker. Relatives and friends who attended the Thanksgiving dinner in the home of Laura Grigsley of Burtsell Thursday were minister, Benny Welch, and grandson of Osceola, Bryon Shells of Little Rock, Valree Smith of Gurdon, Rufus Hatley, Cameron Rhinehart, April Hatley and friend, Rufus Hatley Jr., Alonzo Leeper, Helen Burton of Chicago, Ill., Joe Welch, Winfred and Margret Burton, Little Winfred Burton and son, Quartz Burton, Frederick and Lola Hatley and Shanina and K.P. Leeper, Hura Dern Grigsley of Hot Springs, and other relatives and friends. Margie and Floyd Gatlin have returned home after visiting their daughter, Mammie L. and daughter of Ft. Worth, Texas. Her daughters, Mary Ann Anderson and Patrica Bryant, surprised their parents with Thanksgiving dinner. Vanessia Russey visited her children in Dallas, Texas, Willie B. and Douglas Booker, Milton Golden and grandchildren, over the holidays. Hazle Welch and daughter, Lois Ann Williams, and her daughter of Gurdon, and daughter-in-law, Ruthie Welch of Osceola visited her children in Rockford, Ill. They were Raymond Lee and Marilyn Welch, Bobby Ray and wife, Dixon, Bobbie Jewel and family, Annie Moreland and family, her sister, Patricia, and her family, along with other relatives and friends. Harvey McClelland is in the hospital at this report. Gilbert Davis of Gurdon is out of the hospital and reported to be doing fair. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Stafford of Gurdon have returned home after spending Thanksgiving holiday with their son, Harold Stafford, and his family in Dover, Del., along with Mrs. Stafford's brother, Arthur Bragg. Others who were visited were son, Phillip Stafford of Daly City, Calif., and Mrs. Stafford's brother, Archie Bragg of Chicago, Ill. The family worshiped at Calvary Baptist Church on Sun., Nov. 21, in observance of the 115th anniversary celebration. While in Philadelphia, the Staffords and family members were entertained at the Merriam Theater where they saw the play Lord, Why Do I Keep Choosing the Wrong Man?
