Red Springs EHCPublished Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesGood planning can help families survive times of disaster and hardship, was the program given by Denise Ezell to the Red Springs Extension Homemakers Club November 11. With only weeks to go to New Year's day 2000, experts believe one can expect little disruption in the lives of everyone, but experts believe rural people are more at risk and less likely served by large utilities and organizations. The first things needed are plans for tornados, earthquakes, flash floods or a fire escape. Things to keep on hand are first aid kits, non-prescription drugs, tools and supplies, and clothing and bedding. Keep supply kits in your home or car. Families who can survive best are those who have plans in place. Tootsie Dempsey, president, presided over the business session. Twenty-two members answered roll call by a way they have to protect themselves. Two new members, Ruthie Smith and Jodi Chism, were welcomed to the club. The devotional a song of praise was given by Betty Cook. Blankets will be purchased for use by sick children at the three Gurdon schools as a community service project.
