Renovations are underway at an 1884 home in Gurdon, with plans to turn it into a bed and breakfast inn.

The house, located at 206 Front Street, is owned by local hair stylist Tommy Potter and his wife.

Currently, the family is living in the structure as the renovations are being done.

It's a slow process, Potter said, but will be worth the effort.

Once the renovations are complete, the place will be named the Ghostlight Inn, utilizing the legend of the Gurdon Light as the theme.

At this time the house is being rewired and re-plumbed where needed so it will meet all codes.

All modern intrusions, such as paneling are being removed, with the idea to have rough wood walls and ceilings for the guests.

This will give the rooms a more rustic look, reminiscent of the time the house was actually built.

The home has a lot of Gurdon history behind it as well. When first built, it was used as a railroad house because of its proximity to the rail.

A former city marshal once owned the house. And, its last incarnation before Potter was as a pool hall.

In addition to being a bed and breakfast, Potter plans to keep his styling salon, Hair It Is, on site as well. This way, patrons can get their hair trimmed or styled if needed.

Once the renovations are complete, Potter said, the B&B will be listed on the World Wide Web.
