UACCH High Scoring Students

Technical and industrial students at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope scored higher than the national average in two categories in the Student Occupational Competency Assessment Test (SOCAT) for 1998-99.

The SOCAT test is administered by the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute to persons who have completed the requirements for graduation in chosen occupational areas as part of the college's continual efforts to assess the success of its occupational programs.

The average score for UACCH students in welding technology was 70.7, whereas the national average was 55.8. The average score for diesel technology students was 68.7, overriding the national average of 62.5.

UACCH students beat the state averages in all four categories of the test. In diesel technology UACCH students scored 68.7 with 66.0 as the state average. HVAC students beat the state average 64 to 53, and industrial electricity students surpassed the state average 50.6 to 42.6. Welding technology students outranked the state average by a whopping 25 points, 70.7 to 45.1.
