Volunteers SoughtPublished Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe tax-aide program, administered by the AARP Foundation and the nation's largest free, volunteer-run counseling and tax preparation service, is seeking volunteers of all ages who want to learn more about individual taxpayer law and help prepare returns for middle and low- income taxpayers. For more information contact Lucille Franklin at 1505 Potts St., Malvern, AR 72104, or call 501-337-7228. Last year in Arkansas 300 tax-aide volunteers helped more than 10,900 residents prepare more than 13,000 federal and state tax returns at 67 sites across the state. Nationally, tax-aide volunteers prepared 1.8 million 1998 returns at no cost to the taxpayer. "I expect an increase in the number of taxpayers wanting assistance with their taxes this year," said Bud Olson of Malvern, who serves as tax-aide state coordinator. "That's why we need more volunteers to help prepare more returns." Volunteers receive tax training from the Internal Revenue Service and commit to work 40 hours over the 10-week peak period between February 1 and April 15. Volunteers of all ages, background and skill levels are encouraged to sign on. AARP membership is not required to be a tax-aide volunteer. For more information contact Lucille Franklin at 1505 Potts St., Malvern, AR 72104, or call 501-337-7228. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
