Bluff CityJerry McKelvyPublished Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving holiday. Do you ever stop to count your blessings and think of all the things you should be thankful for? Here are just a few things to consider. I am thankful that I live in a country in which the people have as much freedom as we do. Even with all its faults, the United States is still a great place to live. Just think, I could have been born in some undeveloped, third-world country. I am thankful for the portion of health I have. When I see the blind, the crippled and the very sick, I realize how fortunate I am. I am thankful I have food, clothing and shelter. There are many in the world who go to bed hungry. I think of these when I'm feasting at a Thanksgiving meal or when I see the food people leave on their plates when they are finished eating. I am thankful for the five senses I have for the ability to see a beautiful sunset, to hear the birds chirping in the trees, to smell all kinds of things, to taste my favorite foods and to feel the wind that cools me on a hot day. Think what life would be like without even one of these senses we take for granted. This list could go on and on. As we celebrate this holiday, let us be truly thankful for the blessings we enjoy.
