Emmet Sr. Girls Defeat DelightBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in the Nevada County Picayune Emmet's senior girls kept the Eagle teams from being swept in games against the Delight Bulldogs recently. The Lady Eagles posted a 45-42 win over the Lady Bulldogs as the only blemish Delight had on the night. Emmet opened with a 10-8 first quarter, but fell behind 17-14 at the half. The Lady Eagles, on the strength of 25 points from Amanda Hodges, fought back in the third to cut the lead to 30-28, before taking control in the final eight minutes for the win. Emmet was 11 of 20 at the charity stripe, while Delight only hit two of five. Hodges was the game's leading scorer. Delight was powered by the duo of Kala Martin and Lindsey Wahl, each with 13. EAGLES 79 BULLDOGS 84 Delight needed two overtime periods before knocking Emmet off 84-79 to keep the Eagles winless on the season. The Eagles opened with a 13-12 lead at the end of one, only to see the 'Dogs take a 32-27 lead at the break. Emmet rallied in the third to take the lead, but Delight tied the game at the end of regulation. The first five minute overtime did nothing to settle the issue, though the 'Dogs did take advantage in the second extra period to preserve the win.
