IP Gives $3,000 Grant To CCYDCPublished Wednesday, November 17, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesClark County Youth Development Center received a grant from International Paper Company in the amount of $3,000. The grant will match an Arkansas Better Chance grant that the center received to provide the Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters, which serves 65 children in Clark County, including Gurdon, Okolona and Arkadelphia. The program also serves 20 children in Delight (Pike County). The program is home based. Services are provided for children ages three, four and five and their families. Four trained home visitors work in the program. The home visitors are responsible for role playing the lessons for each week with a parent. The parent becomes responsible for teaching the lesson to the child, which enables them to become involved with their child's education and becoming their child's first teacher. The basic skill areas that are stressed in the HIPPY curriculum includes tactile discrimination, visual discrimination, auditory discrimination, conceptual discrimination, language development and verbal expression. The preschoolers must remain in the program for two years. The program prepares children for a successful entry into primary school. If you would like more information, or to enroll your child in the program, contact Delores Hodge at Clark County Youth Development Center in Gurdon at 353-6145.
