Students Inducted Into Honor SocietyPublished Wednesday, November 17, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneFifteen students from Nevada High School were inducted into membership of the National Honor Society in a ceremony held at Western Sizzlin on October 25. Members were selected by a Faculty Council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students inducted were Carie Adams, Carla Adams, Todor Bobev, Leticia Coelho, Trina Goodwin, Cody Hopson, Johnathan House, Marcy Joe, Sara McCord, Ernesto Molina, LaRuth Moss, LaFoya Pearson, Samuel Quaries, Bridget Smith and James Turner. The installation of officers was presented by Linda Carlew. The new officers are Melissa Niemeyer, president; Ashley Gentry, vice president; Hannah Ward, secretary; Jason Yarbrough, treasurer; Lacey Pipkin, historian; Terry Sanders, parliamentarian; and Beth Neel, reporter. "National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community," said Jill Self, chapter adviser. The Nevada High School chapter has been active since 1997. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. Chapters exist in more than 60 percent of the nation's high schools and since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership. Millions of dollars in scholarships have been awarded for senior members since 1945 by the sponsoring organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
