W.E. McFarlandPublished Wednesday, June 23, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneW.E. McFarland, a life-long resident of Emmet, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, while traveling with friends in Bakersfield, Calif. Mr. McFarland held a master's degree from Southern State College. He taught in the Emmet Public Schools for 12 years. He was employed in the poultry industry for many years and also ran his farm in Emmet. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hope, a member and teacher of the Century Bible class and he served as lay minister in the Emmet area. He was a thirty-third degree Mason and a past worthy guard patron of the Eastern Star in Hope. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hogue McFarland. Survivors include Sandra McFarland Garbisch and five grandchildren, Samantha, Brooke, Norbert, Virginia Margaret, and Charlotte Garbisch of Pittsburgh, Penn. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, June 25, at 1:00 p.m. at Hope First United Methodist Church. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the church. Visitation will be Thursday, June 24, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the parlor of First United Methodist Church in Hope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the W.E. and Margaret McFarland Educational Fund at Citizens National Bank in Hope.
