Teacher Spotlight SetBY JOHN MILLERPublished Wednesday, November 10, 1999 in the Gurdon Times Thomason's Big Star has been one of the two advertisers to sponsor a player of the week for the Gurdon Go-Devils. However, as the regular season has ended and playoffs are underway, Terry Thomason, Big Star owner, is adding a new ad to his list teacher of the week. Beginning soon, the Big Star ad will spotlight one of Gurdon's top teachers and give a small biographical background on them. This, Thomason said, will be a weekly event with the principals of Gurdon's three schools determining who the teacher of the week will be. The winner, he said, will also receive a pizza from Pizza Pro. "It feels good to recognize teachers," Thomason said. "A lot of time they are the unsung heroes." The idea of a teacher of the week, he continued, stems from his player of the week ad. He figured if it could be done for football why not do it for teachers.
