If you have it, they will come: the craft bazaar is shaping up to be one of our most successful endeavors. The 'Christmas and the Arts' Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 20, from 9-5. Chairperson Heidi Richards says a wide variety of gifts and decorations will be for sale, from country to Victorian, from yard decorations to floral pieces and gift baskets. The arts league will sponsor a food booth for those serious shoppers who need to keep up their strength. Mark your calenders and come get a head start on your Christmas shopping. There are still a few booths available. Call Heidi Richards at 887-0140 or 887-8214.

Art on Display: Local artists Spot Daniels' work will be on display at the Prescott branch of the Bank of Delight for the next month. Stop by and take a look.

Oral history: So far, no one seems interested. If you aren't sure what to do, call me! We'll talk.

Corrections: I hope I didn't offend anyone by stating my opinon of contemporary metal sculpture. Art is subjective and if everyone liked/wanted the same things, this would be a boring world. Again, a couple of lines were advertently left out of last week's article, which made them read rather strangely; however, no harm done. We at AAL are just grateful for the opportunity to share what's happening with the community. First correction: But if metals are melted and poured into molds, creating forms of people, animals, etc. that have shadows highlights and crevices than there is a new dimension and familiarity which I find acceptable. Second correction: on the other hand, wood is a warm medium. It was once alive, and it has texture and grain and color, which is why Butch Ellis' work is so fantastic and maybe why I like furniture. And yes, some furniture is art. If you don't believe it, watch the Antiques Roadshow.

More thoughts on What is art anyway? Th day I saw the mermaid sculpture there was also an art exhibit on display. Most of the pieces were by people I'd never heard of, a majority of it was nothing but line drawings, some approximately 5x5 inches with a four-digit price tag. I like a realistic style, rich in detail, pencil drawing of a Latino man who'd been in a fight, complete with cut eyebrow and a swollen lip. Every whisker in his day-old beard and the pride and pain in his eyes was evident. Ah, I thought - real art! But I was wrong. As I said, art in its many forms is a very personal matter for both the creator and the art lover. Just because the others didn't appeal to me, clearly the fact that they were on loan from a prestigious gallery and the value placed on them meant they appealed to others. Questions or info? Call me at 887-6241 or 324 E. Main, Prescott.
