The Terre Noire 4-H Club has made the most of the month of October.

They have decided to 'share the fun' with regards to 4-H. The month was kicked off by collecting eye glasses to donate to the Lions Club. This has been an ongoing project by club president Trey Burchfield. "The donated eye glasses will enable many the gift of sight," Burchfield stated.

Kathryn Burchfield, the Terre Noire 4-H Leader, attended the Southern Region 4-H Leader Forum that is held at Rock Eagle, Ga., every year.

The Red Springs Extension Homemakers provided many pins for trade items. October 9 was 4-H Day at the Arkansas State Fair. The club had one member and two adults attending this competitive day. Robyn LeMay exhibited her insect exhibit and won first place. Trey Burchfield is a 4-H state officer and was in charge of the bicycle rodeo contest held during 4-H Day.

The Purple Circle Awards banquet is held to honor junior exhibitors that display grand champion animals. The 4-H state officers were instrumental in making the banquet run smoothly. Many Clark County 4-H members and FFA students were honored at this event.

The next event of the month was also attended by Trey. Gov. Mike Huckabee signed a proclamation declaring October "4-H Promotion Month."

The Governor spoke with each and of the 40 or so 4-H members attending the event.

The Terre Noire 4-H Club had two young ladies Jessie Livingston and Lauren Coston to represent them in the Forest Festival pageant.

Wed., Oct. 21, the members held a club meeting, elected officers, and cleaned the walking trail in Gurdon. The members enjoyed the pizza donated by Pizza Pro. 4-H members picked up limbs and trash and raked the leaves off the trail, then went to the Hoo Hoo, where bushes were trimmed and 72 pansies were planted and watered. It should look great for the Forest Festival.

There is one member signed up to attend the hay ride sponsored by the Manchester area 4- H'ers.

Burchfield will be speaking at the Columbia County 4-H Awards banquet to be held later this month. Members will be participating in the upcoming homecoming events Friday at GHS. LeMay is soloist in the band and Burchfield continues to keep the stats for the football team.

All club members will be attending and celebrating the day's events.

The members of Terre Noire 4-H Club would like to invite you to join 4-H. They would like to share the fun.

Anyone interested in joining should contact the local County Extension office at 246-2281.
