Soccer Camp SetPublished Wednesday, November 3, 1999 in the Gurdon TimesThe varsity soccer program at Ouachita Baptist University, in conjunction with the Arkansas State Soccer Association, will sponsor a clinic for prospective entry level coaches Nov. 12-14. The clinic will be held for certification of an 'E' license, an entry level lifetime license that prepares a person to coach children the sport of soccer from five years up to approximately 14 years of age. No prior experience in coaching is required to attend the clinic. The Friday portion of the clinic will be held from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.; Saturday's element is set for 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and the Sunday section will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Dr. Isaac Mwasse, coach of the OBU Lady Tiger soccer team and director of the clinic, said the aim was to improve the quality of soccer in the state of Arkansas. "Soccer coaching is an excellent way for the public to serve in the communities of the state," he said. "The sport is really growing and the demand for qualified coaches is large." The clinic will have a balance of classroom instruction concerned with coaching philosophy, team management, setting-up practice session, rules of the game, systems of play, attacking and defending. "The clinic will really concentrate on spending time on the field demonstrating various ways to run practices," Mwasse said. "Participating coaches will learn how to see the game from the players' perspective." Cost for the clinic is $40.
