Mathis, Gillespie WedPublished Wednesday, November 3, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneChidester and Bluff City sweethearts in 1939, Bernadine Walker Mathis and General Foy Gillespie met again this year and were united in marriage Saturday, October 30, in San Antonio, Texas by Herb Smith, minister of the MacArthur Park Church of Christ. This union combines Bernadine's five sons, Jeff, Don, Ben, Ted and Matt Mathis and five grandchildren with General's two children, Linda Bushyhead and General Allen Gillespie, and four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The bride is the daughter of the late Tom and Rose Walker, formerly of Bluff City and Camden. She is a graduate of the Bluff City High School and Foster Business School. She was employed with the St. Louis Southwestern Railroad Co. in Pine Bluff for several years and retired as secretary with the MacArthur Park Church of Christ in San Antonio. The groom, son of the late General Gordon and Bessie Kirk Gillespie of Bluff City, graduated from Chidester High School. After serving in the armed services in World War II, he retired from Rockwell International in Tulsa, Okla. For many years he owned and operated the Charlie Brown Day Care Center in Tulsa. Following the wedding and luncheon at Crumpets, the couple left for a short honeymoon in the Texas Hill Country. They will reside in Texas.
