Sheriff's Office Continues Investigation

Published Wednesday, September 6, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

A 55-year-old Hope man was shot and killed by his ex-wife Monday night, according to Nevada County Sheriff Harold Vines.

Vines said the original call went to the Hempstead County Sheriff's Office, but was transferred to the NCSO, at 10:46 p.m., once it was learned the shooting occurred in Nevada County, near Bodcaw, off Arkansas Highway 4, this side of the Hempstead County line.

He said an apparent domestic dispute led the the shooting of Haskell W. McKamie by his ex-wife Elizabeth Rich, 42, of Bodcaw. However, Vines pointed out the investigation continues into the shooting, though no charges have been filed at this time.

McKamie was apparently shot in the stomach and chest with a .22-caliber revolver. He was taken to Medical Park Hospital in Hope by the Hempstead County Ambulance Service, and pronounced dead on arrival.
