Valorem Taxes Are Due October 10Published Wednesday, September 13, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneCommissioner of State Lands Charlie Daniels has issued a reminder to all real estate owners that 1994 valorem taxes on real property should be paid no later than October 10 at the county collectors' offices across the state. "There is special importance to getting those taxes paid on time this year," explained Daniels. "Act 660 of 1995 changed the laws on delinguent taxes, so that delinquent properties will only be held at the county for one year before they are forfeited to the state of Arkansas and certified to my office. Before this law change owners had two years to pay at the county before their property was forfeited to the state." The length of time the parcels are held at the State Land Office before they are offered for sale at a public auction will not change. The same two-year holding period and the same notification procedures will be followed by the State Land Commissioner. "We want to do everything we can to notify property owners when their taxes are delinquent so that they have the opportunity to come in and pay them and avoid the sale of their land," Daniels stated. "At the same time, the county government needs the tax money to provide essential services, especially our schools and roads." If you have any questions contact your local county collector or the State Land Office. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
