Labor of Love Blood Drive Successful; 25 Units Collected

Published Wednesday, September 13, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

Many people were lined up to donate blood at the Prescott/Nevada County Blood Drive. The theme for the blood drive was "A Labor of Love." The blood drive was held on Friday, August 25, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Prescott. The Nevada County Association for Family, Community and Education (FCE) Clubs sponsor several such blood drives every year averaging 13 units donated. The "Labor of Love" Drive secured 25 units.

So why the turnout at this particular blood drive? People wanted to show their support for Charles Ray Cross who has recently been diagnosed with lukemia. According to Pat McCullough, Blood Drive Committee Chair, "Charles Ray is so well-known around the County and is someone you can always count on for help. People wanted to give something back to him.

The following people donated blood: Donna Wingfield, Heather Loe, Rhonda Hillery, Martin Williams, Brenda Johnson, Shirley Clingman, Baker Butler, Debra Jackson, Bonnie Haynes, Janet Clarke, Tim Clarke, Bobbie Miner, Vicki Kenworthy, Billy Morris, Audra Honea, Vernon Haynes, Jimmy N. Peters, Billy Peters, Karen Jobe, Mary Ann Stovall, Julia Ingram, Barbara Fore, Penny Inlow, Carrie Arterbury and Mark Adcock.

T-shirts and door prizes were also special incentives at the "Labor of Love" blood drive. The American Red Cross supplied the t-shirts. Door prizes were secured from: Prescott Flowers, Allcare Pharmacy, Pizza Hut, Granny's Dolls and Collectibles, Prescott Hardware, and Holly's Health-Mart. These donations were greatly appreciated and helped make the blood drive a success.

Thanks to the following volunteers for their time and hard work on the blood drive: Pat McCullough, Elta Morrell, Ruth Sullivan, Betty Lewis, Willie Mae Muldrew, Huey Shewbirt, Ruby Wicker, Lucy Glass, Maxine Glass, Deb Jackson, Karen Jobe, Barb Morton, Charlotte Tinsley and Karina Tinsley.

The state of Arkansas is in desperate need of blood. Last year Arkansas had to purchase over 10,000 units of blood from out of state to keep up with the demand. Be watching for information on future blood drives. Giving blood is truly a "labor of love."
