Voters Have to Decide on Three New Board MembersPublished Wednesday, September 13, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneVoters will have some choices to make Tuesday, Sept. 19 at the annual school elections. There are three slots open on the Prescott School Board, and nine candidates have filed for them. Joe Miller, school board president, and Bonnie Smith tendered their resignations from the panel at the end of a June meeting. This created two vacancies. Meridith DeWoody's spot was the only one which was actually supposed to be up for renewal this year. DeWoody decided not to seek reelection. This means there are openings in zones three, four and five. The terms of Willie Marks and George Odom are not up at this time. Karen Taylor, Jeff Haynes, Juanita Hubbard and Jim Franks have all fined petitions seeking the open seat in zone 3. Zone 4 will see Larry Inscore and Kay Hendrix vie for the vacancy, while there will be a trio of candidates to choose from in zone 5. Charles Purtle, Rick McGough and Ralph Harris Jr. are all running for this opening. All other races in the county for school board positions are uncontested. Joe Saladoin will take a seat as Emmet's representative from zone 5. In the Nevada School District, zone 1, the Old Oak Grove district, Jerry Bishop will be the new board member. Bishop will replace Herbert Coleman, the current board president, who did not seek reelection. None of the three school districts in the county are asking for a millage increase during this election. Polling in Emmet will be at the city hall, while the voters in the Prescott will cast their ballots at Prescott High School. Voting in the Nevada election will also take place on the school's campus.
