Dumpsters to Be RemovedPublished Wednesday, September 27, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneFor about a year, residents of Prescott have enjoyed the convenience of dumping their garbage in dumpsters within the confines of the city. However, all this is about to change, according to Prescott Mayor Howard Taylor. He said the garbage service with the dumpsters had been provided to city residents at no cost by the county. But, due to regulations from the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology (PC&E), this is changing, and the dumpsters will be removed. Taylor said for the city to continue this type of garbage collection, it would have to construct a fence around the dumpsters, and a full-time employee hired to oversee collection at the site. This expense, he said, is the primary reason the dumpsters will be removed. The dumpsters will be removed from the city by Oct. 1. At this time, Taylor said, the local landfill will be open for people to take their refuse to. The landfill, he said, will be open six days a week, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. daily. "I urge the residents of Prescott to help in keeping our city clean and attractive," he said. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
