On Condition of School System

The Emmet School District held a public meeting on September 11 in the school cafetorium to inform patrons of the school's goals, policies, progams and improvemnts.

Dr. Ross reported an increase in enrollement of more than 20 percent.

Emmet School goals for the 1995-96 school year are as follows:

  1. Improve the average reading score on the SAT-8 for students in grades kindergarten through 12 to 50 percent.
  2. Increase attendance rate for students in grades kindergarten through 12th to the state average of 94.1 percent.
  3. Improve the completion rate for high shcool seniors to the state average of 83 percent.
  4. To increase the effective use of technology.
  5. To expand the student recognition program to grades 4-12.
  6. To continue writing curriculum frameworks for grades kindergarten through 12.
The school programs being used to meet these objectives includes a readiness skills program in kindergarten and first grade, reading recovery program in first grade, a pullout reading lab for students in grades two- six, summer compensatory education program, Title I services, gifted and talented program, vocational programs, and special education services.

School improvements includes an increase in SAT-8 scores, 20 percent more student eligible for student recognition program, being in compliance with all state standards, new stage curtains, new curtains in classrooms, new high school desk, and additional personnel in the elementary school.

Emmet School continues to provide an after school daycare program for benefit of working parents. The daycare program stays open until 6:00 p.m. daily for a nominal fee.
