Devils Stamp Out Redbug Invasion, 15-13 (cont)Published Wednesday, September 27, 1995 in the Gurdon TimesFordyce 34 with 1:49 left. A two yard gain on first down was followed by the play that killed Fordyce's chances as Morgan dropped to pass and was swarmed by several Devils. Instead of taking the sack, Morgan threw the ball up for grabs. Sheppard was the Devil waiting to make the grab. Sheppard returned the interception to the Fordyce 22 before going down. With :49 left, McGalliard took the snap and dropped to one knee to end the game and preserve the 15-13 win. Fordyce won the battle of statistics, running 42 offensive play to Gurdon's 37, and piling up a total of 177 yards versus 137. But turnovers and penalties proved to be the Bugs' downfall. Unofficial statistics show Fordyce was penalized nine times for 65 yards, attempted three passes with no completions and two interceptions, and fumbled three times, losing two. Gurdon converted all three turnovers into points. The Devils were flagged once for 15 yards, had no fumbles and went one for five in pass attempts for two yards. On the ground, Sheppard was again the leader in yardage as he managed 70 on 19 carries for 3.7 yards per carry. Hughes toted the mail eight times for 36 yards, of 4.5 yards per carry, while McGalliard carried twice for 17 yards (8.5 yards per attempt). Charles had three carries and gained 12 yards. The Go-Devils will put their perfect record on the line Friday night as they host, also undefeated, Stamps. Stamps pounded the De Queen Leopards in their Sept. 22 contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 at Gus Brown Field. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
