Here is How the Curley Wolves' Opponents Did Last Friday NightPublished Wednesday, October 4, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott's Curley Wolves will have their work cut out of them Friday night when they travel to De Queen. They should not be fooled by the Leopards' 4-1 record, nor by their 0-1 conference record. The Wolves must remember they are playing in Leopard Stadium, and that makes a difference. If the field is wet, as it was two years ago when over five inches of rain fell during the game, so will the sidelines. Even if the field is damp the visitor's side is usually wet, unless the area has been repaired. And playing in De Queen can be hazardous to your record. They are the upsetters, the ones who will do the unusual to beat you. They can make things happen when teams least expect it. However, if Prescott's offense and defense does as well Friday night as they did last week against Nashville they can survive the poor playing conditions and the power of the Leopards. Two years ago they could not. This team is much different. Both the offense and defense have been doing their jobs. Each week someone else on the team does a better job than he did the week before. This is improvement, but it's been mainly local, on the home field. Now their ability will be really tested. No doubt many of Nashville's fans must have been shocked Friday by the stunning 28-13 score, or maybe they couldn't believe that the Big D and the offense were both effective the same night. Now it has to happen again. Prescott and Stamps are the only two teams left in the conference undefeated. Stamps is third in the state in Class AA, Prescott is eighth and Nashville is 10th. De Queen beat Fouke last week, but only by a 15-6 score. The Leopards' loss in the conference was to the Stamps Yellowjackets two weeks ago, when they fumbled the ball away several times. Although a Class A school this year, Fouke will move up to double A next year, and they will be playing in the 7AA Conference along with Bismarck and Fountain Lake. Gurdon and Stamps will be stepping down to Class A. This is how Prescott's opponents for the remainder of the year fared last week:
Games of other interest: Hope lost to Hot Springs, Bismarck skunked Mount Ida, Bearden beat Harmony Grove and Arkadelphia defeated Ashdown. With the winning team that Prescott has there should be more fans attending the games. The trip to De Queen is a long one, but should be well worth it for the players and the band.
