Former Sheriff's Office Employee Pleads Not GuiltyPublished Wednesday, October 4, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneJimmie Cornelius, a former employee with the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, entered a plea of not guilty in circuit court last week. Cornelius was charged with theft of property over $2,500 in connection with about $26,000 which was missing from the NCSO during a legislative audit. A pretrial date for Cornelius has been set for Nov. 14, with a trial date scheduled for Dec. 4. Cornelius, 40, resigned from the NCSO in April 1995, but began working with the department in Aug. 1992. The legislative audit covered 1993, 1994 and part of 1995, Vines said. "This will be treated like any other case," he said. Once the auditors determined there was a problem, the sheriff turned the case over to the Arkansas State Police. Their investigation led to Cornelius' arrest on Aug. 22. Search | Nevada County Picayune by date | Gurdon Times by date |
