'Wolfden' Given DonationPublished Wednesday, October 11, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe Prescott Rotary Club becomes the latest sponsor for the Wolf Den project of the Prescott Community Freenet Association. Bobby Smith (right) presents a check to PCFA, represented by Danny Stewart (left). Other major contributors are Bank of Prescott, Prescott Motor Company, Prescott Lions Club, Friendly Fred's Auto Sales, General Telephone, Tri-Service Club, and several individuals. PCFA.ORG is a local dial-up computer which provides free access to the Internet. The Internet connection is provided by Prescott Schools and the Arkansas Public School Computer Network. PCFA.ORG has been on-line since July 24, It provides local electronic resources such as a community profile, information on some organizations, and stories from the Nevada Picayune and Gurdon Times newspapers. Stewart says he hopes every local club, church, government entity, and business will contact him to place information onto the computer. Collectively, this information provides a window into the local community for the rest of the world. PCFA relies upon contributions from community organizations, businesses and individuals to pay the phone bill. The project has just passed the half-way point for it's first-year funding goal. About $3,300 has been contributed to the project. It took about $4,000 of computer equipment to start PCFA.ORG, plus each telephone line is $540 a year. The number of lines determines how many local persons can use the system at one time. Applications for free accounts are available by calling PCFA.ORG at 887-1842 and logging in as `new', by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to 615 Oak Street, Prescott, or by asking for one at Taylor's Grocery or Auto Parts and Supply (NAPA). World Wide Web users from outside the Prescott area can visit PCFA.ORG by specifying "http://www.pcfa.org/" as the Uniform Resource Locator (URL).
