Nevada Senior GirlsPublished Wednesday, October 25, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneVanessa Evans scored 25 points against McNeil to lead the Lady Jays. She connected with 12 two-pointers and 1 of 2 free throws. Shonda Young made 7 two-pointers and she was 1 for 1 from the line for 15 points. Shanika Allen scored 12 points (6 field goals) for the Lady Jays and Dilesha Easter finished with 10 points (5 two-pointers). Others scoring for the Nevada senior girls were Alicia Lewis and Crystal Lowe with 6 points apiece, Joannie Bailey with 3 points and Tomeka Muldrow, Tia Page and Deloris Wincher scored 2 points each. Natasha Jones, with 17 points, was the only Lady Lion scoring in double figures. She made 8 field goals and 1 of 1 free shot for 17 points. Nevada made 5 of 9 free shots and McNeil made 3 of 4. The Lady Jays led 22-10 after one quarter, 45-16 at halftime and 64- 24 going into the final period. The senior girls could never be consistant with anything on the offensive board against Stephens. They made it look simple at times in the first half and very poor in the second half. Easy shots that should have been two points were wasted on several trips down court, and in many cases the Lady Jays had the opportunity to miss up to five times before the Lady Runners would take the ball away from them. The Lady Jays hit less than 25 percent of their field goals against Stephens compared to 75 percent against McNeil. They will have to improve and be more consistant to do any good in the conference race. Once again Manessa Evans was the game's leading scorer. She made 7 two-pointers and 6 of 9 free shots for 20 points against the Lady Runners. Others scoring for the Lady Jays were Shonda Young with 7 points, Alicia Lewis with 5, Tomeka Muldrow with 4, and Shanika Allen, Crystal Lowe and Tia Page with 2 points each. Amber Jackson with 11 points for the leading scorer for Stephens. She made 2 field goals and 7 of 14 free shots. Nevada led 12-10 after the first quarter and 28-20 at halftime, but trailed 35-34 going into the fourth period. The Lady Jays made 14 of 30 free throws and Stephens made 16 of 34.
