Basketball Season Begins

Published Wednesday, October 25, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

The Nevada Blue Jays opened the new basketball season right last week with two crushing victories: 69-46 on Tuesday against McNeil and 87-64 Friday night against Stephens.

Both games were non-conference and the games wer played at Nevada in Rosston.

Against the same schools the Lady Jays were hot on Tuesday and easily handled McNeil, 81-31. But it was a different story against Stephens.

The Lady Jays led much of the way Friday, but in the last half the Stephens Lady Runners went ahead to win, 48-42.

Can the Blue Jays make it back to the state playoffs? It looks like they can. Last season they finished second in the state in Class A. They were defeated by Crawsfordville in the state finals, 67-63.

Coaching the Blue Jays this year is Glyndon Franklin, athletic director and former girls' basketball coach, who replaced Jack House, who moved from sports to teach science beginning this school year. Franklin also coaches the junior boys.

Robert Hall from Hot Springs is the coach of the two girls' teams.

This week the two senior teams will host Taylor on Thursday and Mt. Holly on Thursday of next week.
