Key Injuries Lead to Gurdon Loss at Nashville (cont)Published Wednesday, October 25, 1995 in the Gurdon Timesson's reverse was his loan carry for 49 yards and a score. Kenny Hughes carried once for two yards. The loss, Gurdon's second in a row, puts the Devils in a precarious situation heading into Friday night's homecoming game against Prescott's undefeated Curley Wolves. With a 5-3 overall record and a league mark of 2-2, Gurdon needs to win its final two games in order to be assured of a playoff berth. Prescott, in its homecoming game against Hampton Friday, Oct. 20, pounded out a 43-0 win. It's lone blemish was a 12-12 tie against the Hope Bobcats. "Traditionally Prescott-Gurdon games are hard fought," Pace said. "It's a big rivalry." The Devils managed a 14-7 win against the Wolves last season, but saw victory slip from their grasp on the final play of the game two years ago. "Very likely, Prescott will win the conference," Pace said. "They're doing much better than projected. They were picked to finish seventh (in the 7AA). They're team is playing good. "We haven't played as well defensively since the Stamps game. We made a lot of mental mistakes against Horatio (in an 8-6 loss). We played flat and were looking ahead." There can be no more "looking ahead" for the Go-Devils in their final two games. After the Wolves, Gurdon returns to the road with a trip to DeQueen. The Devils must win both games to get a shot at post season play. Kickoff for Friday night's homecoming game is 7:30, with pregame festivities starting at 7 at Gus Brown Field.
