Davis Benton Is Recognized for 25 Hours of Training

Published Wednesday, November 1, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

Davis Benton, a member of the Nevada School board, has been recognized by the Arkansas School Boards Association (ASBA) as an "Outstanding Board Member" for having accumulated at least 25 hours of inservice training and continuing education through workshops, seminars, or other association activities designed to improve his effectiveness as a member of his local school board. The award was presented October 23 at the ASBA fall regional meeting at the Texarkana School District.

The award is part of a three-prong boardmanship program designed by the ASBA board of directors to foster ongoing and continuous learning for Arkansas school board members. Training programs focus on Arkansas school law, leadership, duties and responsibilities of Arkansas school board members, community relations, parliamentary procedure, and the most current information on a wide range of education-related subjects. The award provides recognition for those school board members who take the initiative to continue their inservice training above and beyond the six hours of board member training mandated by Act 767 of 1987.

The Arkansas School Boards Association is a nonprofit service organization that provides a variety of services to the more than 1,800 locally elected school board members in the state.
