After 31 years at the helm of the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger football program, one of the state's sports legends, Buddy Bensonm, has announced his retirement as head coach of the Tiger football program.

The announcement came at a press conference at War Memorial Stadium on Monday, November 13.

Benson will remain with the university in an as yet unspecified capacity.

Speaking at the press conference was OBU President Dr. Ben M. Elrod, athletic director Bill Vining and Benson.

Benson said he looked forward to the days ahead and was anticipating helping the Ouachita athletic program in various ways.

Benson, who is characteristically understated in public comments, said the years as head couch at OBU were highlighted by the "superb" involvement he had with his players.
