Open House Set; Santa Coming

Published Wednesday, November 22, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

Santa Claus is coming to Prescott.

The merchants and businesses will hold their annual Christmas open house on Friday, December 8, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

This will be the fourth year for a cooperative open house for a number of businesses. This time was chosen to precede the Christmas on the Square program, which begins at 6:00 on the steps of the Nevada County courthouse.

1995 marks the tenth year for the Christmas on the Square program. As in past years, this traditional program will include school, church, daycare center choral/singing groups and choirs.

Santa will visit Prescott during the festive celebration at the courthouse.

The chamber is making an effort to have every business downtown crowned with a string of white lights.

This is an effort to enhance the lighting of the courthouse, as well as the efforts of the beautification committee. It is hoped there will be 100 percent participation by the downtown businesses. Merchants need to call the chamber office at 887-2101 to let the chamber know if you will participate in the festival of light project.

The businesses' "Best Decorated Window Contest" will be held again this year. Categories will include:

  • overall winner -- receive the traveling trophy;
  • winner flowers and gifts -- receive a ribbon; and
  • winner all other businesses -- receive a ribbon.
Judging will be based upon originality, creativity, merchandising and overall beauty.

The deadline for registering for the contest is Wednesday, December 6. Windows will be judged on Thursday, December 7. Winners will be announced at the Christmas on the Square program on December 8.

The chamber will again sponsor a Christmas outdoor home decorating contest.

Families wishing to participate in the home decorating contest should contact the chamber office at 887-2101 for application form and rules. Deadline to enter the contest is December 8.
