Prescott Jr. Girls Win

Published Wednesday, November 29, 1995 in the Nevada County Picayune

Fairview felt the wrath of the Prescott eighth grade Wolverettes as they fell 23-14 last week.

Sunshine Kelly paved the way for the win with six points for Prescott, while teammates Jennifer Ingram and Traci Graham contributed four each in the win.

Fairview was led by Glover's six.

The Wolverettes found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-4 score at the end of one, but rallied, and played a stingy defense to take a 12-6 lead going into the lockers at the break. Prescott's girls maintained their lead at 16-10 going into the final period.

Prescott's ninth grade girls were even less gracious as they humiliated Fairview 45-19 to go 3-0 on the season.

Graham scorched the nets for Prescott with 13 points. Stacy Stockton and Kamori Scott poured in nine apiece in the thrashing.

Johnson was the leading scorer for Fairview with seven.

Coach Cecily Butler cleared her bench in the whipping, making sure all players got in some valuable minutes and gained game experience.

The Wolverettes opened with an 11-4 lead in the first, stretching it to a 21-11 halftime margin. They blew the game open in the third, going up 36-16.

Prescott's crew shot an even .500 from the line, connecting on six of 12 free throws. Fairview was only able to hit two of seven from the charity stripe.

The domination on the court continued as the freshman team dropped the Lady Jays of Nevada 46-34 to run their record to 4-0.

Stockton was unstoppable offensively as she poured in 21 points. Graham showed her scoring ability with 13

Jackie House paced the Jays with 14 points.

The Wolverettes took control of the game early with a 17-4 lead at the end of one. The Lady Jays battled back, cutting the gap to nine points at the half with a 23-14 score. Prescott's girls pulled back to a double-digit lead at the end of three, going up 37-24.

The Wolverettes shot slightly better than 50 percent from the line, hitting seven of 13. Nevada swished the nets on three of seven free throw attempts.

Prescott's junior squads are preparing for the ever-tough Blevins Junior Tournament, which runs Nov. 27 through Dec. 2.
