Controversy at UniversityPublished Wednesday, June 30, 1999 in the Nevada County PicayuneThe chancellor of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville has been asked to attend a meeting of the Personnel subcommittee of the Legislative Council. Legislators have expressed concern about the announced layoffs of 32 employees in the university's physical plant. The university relies heavily on state aid appropriated by the legislature. When announcing the layoffs, university officials blamed a lack of state aid. In the 1999 regular session, legislators believed they appropriated sufficient funds for university operations.
