Prescott Travels To Nevada High Gym; Takes Wins in Two Of Three GamesPublished Wednesday, November 29, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayunePrescott's Curley Wolf basketball teams proved to be unfriendly visitors to Nevada Monday, Nov. 20, as the visitors took two of three games from the Blue Jays. Action got underway with the Wolverette junior girls dumping the junior Lady Jays 46-34. The Wolverette squad jumped out to a 14-4 lead at the end of the opening period, and coasted to a 23-14 advantage at the half. The score got worse by the end of the third as Prescott held a commanding 37-24 lead. Jackie House's heroics weren't enough to give her team the win in spite of scoring 14 points, with a trey thrown in. Romana Evans contributed eight in the loss, while Shiketa Henry canned six. The junior Lady Jays shot poorly from the charity stripe as well, connecting on a scant four of 12. Stacy Stockton was a scoring machine for the junior Wolverettes as she poured in 23 points, with a three- pointer and going six of eight from the line. Tracy Graham did Nevada no favors with 13 on the night. Melissa Beavert added six in the win. The junior Wolverettes shot almost .500 at the line, hitting seven of 15. The senior girls did a little better, but still were unable to post a victory as they succumbed 72-67. Prescott opened the contest with a 16-10 lead in the first, and was ahead 36-26 by halftime. The Wolverettes added to their margin by the end of three as they took a 56-40 lead going into the final eight minutes. Four members of the Lady Jay squad scored in double figures, but it just wasn't enough. Shamika Allen ripped the nets for 15 points, including hitting three treys. Dilesha Easter and Toneka Muldrow contributed 13 each in the outing, while Vanessa Evans added 11. The Lady Jays shot well from the line as they hit 15 of 25 for 60 percent. Laura Culpepper was the spark plug for the Wolverette offensive engine as she scored 26 to lead all players. Jessica Hildebrand followed with 14, while Ashley Stewart netted 12. Leslie Hines also hit the double-digit plateau with 10. Prescott's girls kept the nets hot from the free throw line as well, netting 13 of 22 for a 59 percent clip. Nevada's only saving grace came when the senior boys whipped the Curley Wolves 65-41 in the closing game of the night. The Jays poured in 29 points in the opening quarter, while Prescott only managed six. By halftime the score was 33-13. However, Prescott won the third quarter outscoring Nevada 14-12, to cut the lead to 45-27. Joseph Young was the only Blue Jay in double figures, with an even dozen. The rest of the team was balanced, as Mike Lowe netted nine, Lamarcus Page added eight, Tavoris Blakely sent seven points through the net and Jermaine Perkins and Ricardo Young each scored six. Blakely and Ricardo Young also connected on three pointers. The Jays scorched the nets from the line, connecting on 10 of 14 for a 71 percent rate. No Wolf ventured into double-digit land in the contest. Shawn VanHook came closest with eight points. Neil Toliver and Tucker Baker both scored six in the game. The Wolves shot an even 50 percent from the charity stripe as they netted six of 12. Brock Searcy, J.R. Matthews and Carlos Haynie all ripped the cords with solo three-point shots.
