Lions Club Auction December 7-8Published Wednesday, November 29, 1995 in the Nevada County PicayuneDecember 7 and 8 will be the dates for the 21st Annual Lions Club Auction. The auction, an event no one wants to miss, will be held at the Nevada County Courthouse. The selling begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. The Prescott Lions Club has expressed its appreciation for all the items donated from local and area merchants. This year, the auctioneer will be Jim Self. With his able assistance last year, the club reached its goal of $8,000. As an added attraction for the 1995 edition of the Lions Club Auction, it will be telecast live on CCT-TV. This means viewers can call their bids in from the comfort of their own homes. The Prescott Lions Club community service activities from March through August are listed below and were funded by the monies raised from the auction. The club donated: $225 to sponsor a Little League baseball team; $250 to the Nevada County Fair Association for a sound system; an item for the Lions Mid-South sight auction; and $250 for leadership level to the Razorback Council of the Boy Scouts of America. The club also purchased eyeglasses for three youths, ages three, nine and 16, from funds directly from the auction. The club also donated $500 to the Prescott Parks and Recreation Department for a pavilion; $50 to Project Literacy for adult education; $100 to the Nevada County 4-H; $250 to the Prescott Shuttle for 37 students to eat breakfast on their return trip from New York City; $1,250 at 50:1 to the Lion World Services for the Blind; $100 to Leader Dogs for the Blind; $200 for Visiting Lions Day at Lions World Services for the Blind; and $100 to Campus Crusade for Christ. The club also operated a concession stand at the annual Chicken and Egg Festival; donated $540 to Prescott Community Freenet Association for a dedicated phone line to provide toll-free access to the Internet; and presented a $1,000 scholarship to high school senior Traci Hughes.
