Board hears Reports on Conferences

The Prescott School Board's regular monthly meeting was held Tuesday, November 21.

The board approved the minutes of the regular meeting held on October 26.

Mrs. Joyce Westmoreland, teacher, and some of her students gave the board a demonstration of the Shurley Method being used in the English classes.

Mrs. Hyacinth Deon, Director of Instructional Services, reported to the board on the planning of the Alternative Learning Program.

Mr. Johnston presented a report to the board on the parent/teacher conferences held on October 26.

According to Mr. Johnston's report the attendance by parents at the October 26th conferences compared to last year's October conferences was: Kindergarten -- 88% this year, 92% last year; First grade -- 93% this year, 97% last year; Second grade -- 95% this year, 93% last year; Third grade -- 92% this year, 94% last year; Fourth grade -- 94% this year, 90% last year; Average for Elementary -- 92% this year, 93% last year; Fifth grade -- 92% this year, 95% last year; Sixth grade -- 91% this year, 89% last year; Seventh grade -- 88% this year, 87% last year; Eighth grade -- 81% this year, 87% last year; Average for Middle School -- 88% this year, 90% last year; Ninth grade -- 71% this year, 77% last year; Tenth grade -- 77% this year, 77% last year; Eleventh grade -- 72% this year, 79% last year; Twelfth grade -- 59% this year, 73% last year; Average for High School -- 70% this year, 77% last year.

Mr. Johnston gave the board a summary of Act 917 of 1995.

The board elected Mr. Jim Franks as their official delegate to the Arkansas School Boards Association conference in Little Rock on December 4-6.

The next regular meeting of the school board will be on December 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the high school library,
