line.

On first down VanHook gained 7 yards to the 10, but then Yates was sacked on the next play, losing 22 yards. The defense had better look out when you move the Wolves back that far.

Sure enough, it happened. Yates was able to complete a pass to Cornelius for the TD with 2:32 left in the period. After Fountain kicked the point after the score was 42-0.

Coach Eddie Jackson, who had already played some from the bench, began to put a lot of new players on the field, but the defense was still tough and Gentry punted.

Al Johnston started as quarterback. On the first play the Wolves got a first down from a Gentry penalty.

On the first play of the final period a pitchback was incomplete (which is the same as a fumble), and Gentry recovered the ball.

Not to worry. The defense held. A halfback pass was attempted on fourth down and 9, but it fell incomplete for the turnover on downs.

On Prescott's second play another pitchback was incomplete with Gentry once more recovering the ball. A score for the Pioneers was near.

Beginning at the Prescott 44 Gentry was able to make it to the one in five plays. Scott Congrove, who ran 26 times for the Pioneers for 119 yards during the game, went in for the score. A 2-point conversion play failed and the score remained 42-6.

Beginning at their own 37-yard line, the Wolves gained one first down -- thanks to good runs by Heath Duke and Jeremy Morrow, but they failed on a fourth and 11 at the Gentry 35. The Pioneers took over on their 30-yard line.

Still went into shotgun formation and completed a long pass to wide receiver Jessy Pettit for a 70-yard TD. Another 2-point try also failed and the score remained 42-12, where it stayed as the game concluded.

The Curley Wolves had a total of 14 first downs during the game, the same as Gentry.

Still completed 7 passes for 99 yards. Gentry had a total of 162 yards rushing. The Pioneers netted 261 yards during the game. Prescott netted 301.

Prescott fumbled the ball three times to Gentry and the Pioneers intercepted one pass.

Prescott had only two penalties against them that netted 17 yards. Gentry was penalized 7 times for 55 yards.

Once more the offense and defense completmented each other. They are playing as a complete team, and that's what it will take against the Clarkville red and white Panthers Friday.

Although the score may not indicate it, Gentry was a winning football team or the Pioneers would not have made it to the quarter-finals; they were number one in the 1AA Conference.

Clarksville has a good football team, too. They have been ranked higher than the Curley Wolves all year.

So, it means a lot of preparation for the Wolves before Friday night. Determination and ability seem to be in place for the Wolves, but the team must continue the preparation.

This Friday night will conclude the games in the PHS stadium. The state finals will be played next week in Little Rock in War Memorial Stadium. Let's hope it will include Prescott.
