Jaycees Have Projects In Mid-Winter Contest

Published Wednesday, November 29, 1995 in the Gurdon Times

Kenneth Harper, president of the South Clark County Jaycees, attended the mid-winter board meeting in Hot Springs November 17 and 18. The chapter had five projects entered for judging this last quarter. Out of the five submitted four placed in the judging.

One was the head start playground. This project involved demolishing and removing old playground equipment and installing new equipment. This project placed first in the area of community service. Ronnie Baire was the project chairman.

The Punt, Pass and Kick project placed second in public relations and project sweepstakes winner. This project gave kids from the ages of 8-15 the chance to show off their football abilities. Coach John Ware was the project chairman. A special thanks to Gary Plyler and Russell Mosley for their volunteering to help with this project.

The Jaycees placed third with M-Night with North Hills. This was a chapter activities project which involved having other Jaycees involved in another club's activities and to become more acquainted with one another from another Jaycee chapter. Piggly Wiggly was a generous contributor of this cause.

Another third place project was Family Trip St. Louis. This project was the idea of Harper to plan and execute the plans for a family trip to St. Louis to attend a great aunt's 50th wedding anniversary. This project was under member development.

The chapter also received the Future Vision Award, and was recognized as the top growth chapter with the most new members. Because of this the South Clark County Jaycees are now a member of the Platinum Club.

Harper was presented the Presidential Award of Honor, Region 4 Silver Platter, a Gold Medallion and ranked number 10 president for the second quarter.

Next meeting for the South Clark County Jaycees will be November 30 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gurdon City Hall.
